What is an SMS?
An SMS (Short Message Service) is a short text message which is sent from one mobile to another mobile phone or to a fixed line over the mobile network. It is composed of up to 160 characters.

How much do text messages cost?
- Receiving an SMS is free, even when you are abroad. You only pay when receiving a special message that includes a ringtone, game, etc..
- The rate for sending a text message to a Belgian number varies, depending on your price plan. Select your subscription or select your Pay&Go reload card and see the rates.
- Do you text to a fixed line? Rates are the same.
- Do you text to a short number? See the specific rate conditions of short numbers.
- Do you text online? Rates are the same (if you have registered, you can send a text messsage online).
How to receive text messages on a fixed line?
If you have a telephone designed to receive text messages, there are 2 ways you can do this:
- Pick up the handset: the message is read out by means of text-to-speech technology.
- Or see the message scroll past on the display of your fixed-line phone.
What is an MMS?
With an MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) you can send images, sounds, videos or photos to another mobile phone or to an e-mail address.

How much do multimedia messages cost?
- Receiving an MMS is free in Belgium.
- The rate for sending a multimedia message to a Belgian number varies, depending on your price plan. Select your subscription or select your Pay&Go reload card and see the rates. Rates are the same if you send your MMS to an e-mail address.
Configure your mobile for MMSes
All mobile phones sold in one of our points-of-sale or online in our mobile phone catalogue are already configured for MMSes. If you have bought your device elsewhere, you may have to configure it:
- Receive your settings free of charge per text message.
- Or find your mobile phone in our interactive manual and see all screens of the menu, step by step.
- Or configure your phone manually to send and receive MMSes.
First, navigate inside the menu of your phone: Configuration > Messages > MMS or Settings > Multimedia messages (consult your mobile phone's manual if needed). Then enter the data below to configure your mobile phone:- APN (Access Point Name): event.proximus.be
- Username: mms
- Password: mms
- IP: 10.55.14.75
- Port: 9201 (for WAP1.0) or 8080 (for WAP2.0)
- URL: mmsc.proximus.be/mms

Send or divert MMSes to an e-mail address
To send an MMS message to an e-mail address, enter your contact's e-mail address (instead of the latter's mobile number) in the Destination field.
You can divert all your MMSes, or only divert MMSes when you are abroad:
- Connect to the Proximus e-Services.
- In the left column, click My Mobile.
- In the right part of the screen, click MMS divert.
- Next, enter the e-mail address at which you would .
- Click Configure to validate your changes.
